Kampala Central MP aspirant Moses Muhangi has criticised the quality of leadership on display in the ongoing campaigns, saying some contenders are trivialising serious issues affecting the city.
Muhangi made the remarks during a heated live Kampala Central parliamentary candidates debate on NBS TV, where candidates outlined their plans ahead of the 2026 elections.
Muhangi said one of the reasons he chose to run for Parliament was a long-standing gap in credible, issue-based leadership in Kampala.
He argued that the current campaign trail has already exposed shallow discussions from some aspirants.
“One aspirant is walking around telling people that his wife is beautiful,” Muhangi said during the debate, adding that such remarks demonstrate a lack of seriousness expected from individuals seeking to lead a constituency as complex as Kampala Central.
He urged voters to focus on competence, vision, and the ability to address urban challenges such as unemployment, congestion, and housing.
The NBS TV debate focused on service delivery, leadership integrity, and strategies to transform Kampala’s economic potential.
While other candidates highlighted agendas on infrastructure and youth empowerment, Muhangi insisted that Kampala deserves leaders who engage citizens on substantive issues rather than theatrics.
The Kampala Central race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in the 2026 elections, with new entrants promising to challenge established politicians.
